The following message is from Dr. W. Douglas Skelton, GPHA President:
“It is with regret that I must inform all GPHA members and supporters that state budget cuts have forced the cancellation of the GPHA Annual Meeting and Conference. The state budget crisis has resulted in a 100% freeze on attendance at conferences and a 100% freeze on non-essential travel. GPHA’s request for exemption from the freezes has been denied. To protect the fiscal integrity of the organization, the GPHA Executive Board has elected to cancel the Annual Meeting and Conference scheduled for December in Savannah. All those who have already paid conference registration fees will be contacted shortly for instructions on receiving a refund.
It is most unfortunate that this comes at a time when public health programs are being threatened, and when our collective voice needs to be heard louder than ever. That is why the GPHA Executive Board is exploring options for holding a one-day meeting to conduct essential business along with other ways to keep GPHA members united and informed.
Please continue to visit this website for more information about the issues unfolding at the state and how you can remain involved.”
