HB 214 is Now Law!
State Representative Mickey Channell delivered the good news via text message to GPHA’s legislative liaison Scott Maxwell, announcing that GPHA’s #1 Legislative Priority for 2011 had been achieved. HB214 creates an independent, cabinet-level Department of Public Health.

FDA alerts public to reports of serious adverse effects with use of benzocaine sprays, gels
The FDA is warning the public that the use of benzocaine, the main ingredient in over-the-counter gels and liquids applied to the gums or mouth to reduce pain, is associated with a rare, but serious condition. Benzocaine gels and liquids are sold OTC under different brand names such as Anbesol, Hurricaine, Orajel, Baby Orajel, Orabase, and store brands.
